Savoy and Belle Époque Librarian Meeting -- Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Savoy and Belle Époque Librarian Meeting
Wed., March 19, 2014
BEC Library

Present: Rebecca Leonhard, Jan Lowman

Jan reported on progress in the Belle Époque Fiction section (change-over to author’s-last-name organization). Rebecca suggested that we catalogue the non-English books with a language prefix (FRE, SPA, GER, RUS, etc.) After finishing the main overhaul, we will change the spine labels and re-catalogue the non-English books.

The BE Library is going to participate in the general inventory of library holdings. We scanned the READY REF, AUDIO VISUAL and REFERENCE sections today. We will be notified when it is our time to scan the NON-FICTION, FICTION and OVERSIZE sections for inventory. (Note: the books need to be in Dewey order before being scanned.) Rebecca printed out the lists of missing items (nearly 600 and growing). After the FICTION change-over, Jan and Scott will begin checking the barcodes of missing items to determine the status of the items. We will note our discoveries on the print out and send it to Savoy when we have finished.

Rebecca reports that we are investigating the possibility of creating separate databases for the BEC and Savoy libraries in Mandarin to facilitate searching, cataloguing and inventory.

Rebecca is making progress with the IDs. Next year, we should be able to use student IDs to check out books. Rebecca is working with IT and Joel to make the change/improvement. In addition, the library fine policy should be ready to go next year, with an extra column on the pocket money chart in Magic Mountain to accommodate library fines.

The LAS Libraries Action Plan is being updated for next year by Rebecca. She will be giving it to Will after Spring Break.

Jan will talk to Carol about the office phone (VOIP) for the library.
